Anyone else find extinction kinda bland Posted: 02 Mar 2019 08:59 PM PST Every ark map has been really exciting and fresh for the most part, a completely dessert world, an overgrown underground bioluminescent world that will kick the crap out of you. And then there's extinction. It doesn't have a feel or a pull to it, it really is like it's name, it's just empty and bland. There's a lot of cool features but they're so spread out and it's just so bleh it just makes it hard to even want to try on it. Sure the titans and everything are cool but there's no desire to tame them from me when the map has no purpose to it. Scorched earth diddnt really either but it was such a. Difficult and demanding place it made it really fun. Abberation had the daunting goal of always going deeper where it got harder and harder but extinction is just a big empty bleh with a empty city, and some mini arks. [link] [comments]

Posted: 03 Mar 2019 08:47 AM PST I am running a private pc server, 2 people. It's got everything so far, just not tek. I truly enjoy this game. So I started a 'Welcome survivors' area on the beach base where I live. Some starter home boxes. Just, tid bits to help. I want to open the server to people who also enjoy the game in a calming manner. My tribe wants a few people to battle but is on much less than I. So we want a mix of like 10 people. But I'm afraid to open :( I hear A LOT about bad tribes and bad server acceptances. Anyway to filter those craptastic people/tribes? I get that I could admin command n all that, I'd just like to not have to. Trading, taming, breeding, building, helpful neighbor = that's me. Pew pew chomp chomp, I'm on every few days but want people to raid= my tribemate (with a different base than I lol) [link] [comments]

Posted: 03 Mar 2019 08:07 AM PST Me and a friend are looking for a server or tribe on XBOX. I'm 29 he's 32. Have taken a break from ARK recently but looking to play again. We have 3000 hours between us. Looking for a server that's not insanely boosted. Not looking for instant tame or level or fibercraft, ez craft, ez tek, etc etc. Also not looking for a cluster. Just a map to grind on. Wouldn't mind joining a tribe on official or something similar also if anyone looking for some help. [link] [comments]
Best way to tame a Yutyrannus? Posted: 03 Mar 2019 09:41 AM PST The thing spawned near my base in the snow biome and is far enough away that it won't come over and kill my dinos there. It's near a cliff that it can't climb, which I think I will use to shoot tranqs down at it. I'm not worried about the Yuty, as I can surely get it down. The problems arise at the roar and carnos. Do I take out the carnos first and then go for the Yuty? I'm worried that they'll start killing it once it's down before I can take my rex and kill them. Or do they just wait there for it to wake up? (Still hostile to players, obviously) And how do I lure it to the cliff without having my dinos get scared? Thanks in advance _^ [link] [comments]
Posted: 03 Mar 2019 05:27 AM PST Is there an app to keep track of you're tamed dinos? Something I could load up and see if they are still alive. I'm in a smaller tribe and it's a constant worry that when I log out all my tames will be dead. I just want an app where I can check to make sure they are alive. It would also be cool if this app could keep a log of their activity. Like if they are set to aggressive, what they kill. Long story short the app would be a tribal log on your phone, but only for your tamed dinos. [link] [comments]

Posted: 03 Mar 2019 09:44 AM PST Blaring heat beat down on us and I drained the last of my leather water skin. The skin wasn't the greatest, it had a small leak that would drain it over time no matter what I did. There was no real worry in drinking the last of my water though, we were set up on a fresh water beach and I could run down and refill whenever I needed. No rationing required. It was a long morning, we had been pushing ourselves since dawn on now the second day of an ambitious project. Constructing ourselves a home. The thatch foundation was about two yards wide and four yards long so far. For the amount of work we put into this, we would have thought we'd have a bit more. I walked down to the shore and began refilling my water skin when I heard Zera speak up behind me "We're out of thatch." It being about mid day, I let out a slight sigh. I was burnt, but I knew that we needed to continue on. We had cleared the immediate area of trees, leaving only boulders and shrubs to help the landscape. The nearest forest was a bit of a hike. "I'm ready." I responded reluctantly. She had caught the tone in my voice along with hearing the sigh beforehand and gave me a look of annoyance. We had a goal of at least finishing the foundation by the end of the night and we needed to remain vigilant to accomplish this. We started our walk down the beach, keeping the water on the left. Zera threw her arm out, hitting me in the chest and I stopped in my tracks. She had seen movement behind the bush to our immediate right, which I had obliviously overlooked. It began rustling and we were both stuck still as statues. We were not ready for this, my hatchet was tied at my waist for easier carrying just as was her pick was. We saw a foot land on the beach breaking the cover of the bush that gave both of us immediate relief, the next foot came right after it. They were holding up a dodo, possibly the most awkward creature I had ever seen. The reflection of the sun giving green sheen that brought the feathers to life across the entire body. It waddled straight up to Zera, who immediately reached her hand out and placed it on the to of its head. The dodo sounded its approval by letting out a whirr and chirp of delight. She turned to look at me with a smile. Zera had an affinity for these helpless creatures, especially the green ones. I thought her crazy, but she would often talk of how she wanted one as a pet. I would entertain her in saying "maybe someday" but in reality, I doubted this would ever be possible. After a few minutes, Zera knew it was time to get going and said a quick goodbye before stepping back. The sudden movement scared the creature which let out an alarming squawk and took off at a pace which made me almost certain it was going to fall over with every step. We watched the panicked bird take off for the next few seconds, passing bush and boulder. At about thirty yards, it began to pass a particularly large rock. We heard a chatter from behind the stone and a green viscous liquid flew out covering the dodos face. It quickly stumbled, falling to the ground, suffocating, blind and helpless. Zera took a quick step in the direction, but it was my turn to put out an arm, stopping her. A dilophosaurus jumped out and announced its attack with more chattering and extending its frills to span at least a foot outwards from the base of its head. It bared down on its prey ruthlessly. The panicked screams of the dodo as its feathers lost the green color that had truly been beautiful rang throughout both Zera and I's ears. It took half a minute of agony for the poor creature to pass. The small carnivore turned its head in our direction soon after the dodo was dispatched. Looking into its cold eyes was akin to staring into the eyes of a serial killer. I can't speak for Zera, but I was terrified. It must have lost the bloodlust though, it turned back to its feast, not caring for us, one way or another. Zera and I couldn't look at each other. We both hung our heads in despair acknowledging the brutality of the lives we now had and the world we existed within. A significant amount of the drive gone, we continued down the beach silently and at a slowed pace. The hill that the woods resided at the top of was in clear view and fast approaching. There was a safer but much longer path to the right which we would take down with the gathered materials, but time was already moving quicker than we had been planning, so we would have to take the steeper path up. The face wasn't a sheer cliff, but it wasn't a hill either. Grey slate on its face, we had to ascend using our hands as much as we were using our feet. With loose rocks crumbling under foot and hand hold, we soon realized that the climb was slightly more dangerous than we had first assessed. Regardless of the danger, we made quick work of it and soon sat together at the top. A word hadn't been said since the dodo and I could see in Zeras eyes that she had been thinking about it. "Before we get going, what do you think about building something to carry the wood and thatch down with?" Zera had finally broken the silence. "I think that's a great idea." I really did think that it was a great idea, but with the somber tone that lingered over us at this point, I would probably agreed to anything she suggested. I was a sucker for sad people and slightly over eager to please. "What were you thinking?" "I figured we could lash the trunks of two small trees, maybe ten footers, together on one end, then span the other end with branches a couple feet apart. Maybe fill in the center with small branches, thatch and fiber. What do you think?" "Like a sleigh kind of thing?" I asked in response. "Yeah, like a sleigh kind of thing." Her mood seemed to be lifting slightly. "I like it." I said. "Good, lets get to work." And with that, we were up. I went right to work on two saplings, felling them quickly and skinning the branches off to make clean poles. Carrying them back to the edge of the cliff on my shoulder and dragging the branches behind me, I saw that she had been taking care of all the smaller plants in the area to gain material for fastening the sleigh together. She had been setting aside the berries from the shrubs she tore apart so we would have something to eat if needed. It came together nicely. It was sturdy, and lighter than expected. Once finished, we got to work cutting down some full grown trees and organizing their parts into several piles. It was going to take us a few trips to get everything home, but it was great that we had it already cut and sorted. Happy with the progress we were making, we lost track of time and before we knew it, dusk had silently crept up on us. This was exactly the situation we were aiming to avoid. "We need to head back." I said "I don't know if we have enough time. We have to take the long way back." Zera was right, we were just about out of time. "We need at least a campfire. We could set it up just back off of the cliff face. I doubt anything will climb up the backside, we'll only have to watch the front." I nodded in agreement. In the little time that I had known her, I had come to acknowledge that she was clearly the better strategist and far more realistic when it came to what we could accomplish. We set to work gathering small stones to create a circle about five feet from the edge and throwing some of the gathered wood and thatch in the center before setting it alight. The pit came to life just as darkness took hold. We cleared out some small plants and stonnes around the fire and found halfway decent places to bed down. Not quite tired yet, we sat with our legs crossed and stared into the flames. There was definitely something therapeutic in watching the flicker. Footsteps came up quickly, causing us both to jump to our feet. They were agile footsteps that were moving faster than any dilophosaurus that I had ever seen. They were heavier too. I pulled back with Zera, to stand between the fire and the cliffs edge. The terrible realization hit both of us at once that although the plan to keep one side open was a great idea if we were facing dilos or compys, with this new predator, we had trapped ourselves. We could see brief shadows in the dark. This creature was a master of torment, never moving its body into the light. Terrified, my white knuckle grip on the hatchet was causing me to lose feeling in my fingers. Then as suddenly as it came, it stopped. Nothing was happening, no footsteps, not a branch was rustling. Still as statues, neither of us dared to move. We hardly dared to breath. We must have stood there for half an hour staring out into the black of the forest in front of us. I started to become ever so slightly complacent with our situation and turned to Zera "Do you think it left?" "No" Her response was quick and direct. "I hope this is a long night." She said. "What?" I asked in confusion. She turned to look catch my eyes, her pupils cast with orange and red as they reflected the flames of the fire. "Would you rather it be a short one?" "No." I was struck down to one word responses at this point. Another twenty minutes of staring into the dark and we were watching our fire dim, bit by bit. The illumination of its flame was creeping in and the stack of wood was on its opposite side. We needed it for the rest of the night. I found myself standing and taking a step towards it when something took hold of my arm. Terrified, I barely caught the scream in my throat before I had a chance to turn and see Zera digging her nails in and vigorously shaking her head no. I gave her a reassuring nod which must have been enough to convince her to let me go. I stepped as lightly as I could, moving past the dying flames. I was staring at the pile, It was now only half lit by the hastily retreating illumination. I was two steps from the wood, and reaching out my hand, my own shadow obscuring the goal I was stretching for. A breath, not mine caused me to stop. I couldn't even see my hand in the darkness I had reached into. I heard the breath again, then the softest touch on my fingertips. I had never moved faster than I did in that moment. I don't remember turning around, getting past the fire or any of the steps that I took, I just remember standing next to Zera back at the cliffs edge, staring at the now completely obscured wood pile. The footsteps started again, but now closer and we still were clueless as to the owner. The footsteps didn't last more than a minute or two this time. It was tormenting beyond comprehension. The night was still relatively young and our fire was so small. Minutes later the ambers were dimmed to a five foot radius, barely illuminating us. I turned to Zera to ask what to do, but didn't even get the words out. A rustle on the opposite side of the caused me to turn in time to see an airborne monstrosity coming over the fire. Long, lean, maybe six feet tall if it were standing and adorning sparse plumes feathers, a raptor. It planted its forehead deep into my sternum immediately taking my breath. With this, I tumbled backwards and over the edge, losing my hatchet in the process. A crack to my face as I careened with a rock, I was tumbling over and over. It felt as though I managed to collide with every boulder on the way down. I landed at the base with a horrible crack. A pain shooting through my left forearm and a sudden sense of nausea gave me the strong impression that I had just broken it. I barely had time to sit up before I heard the creature gave out a deep throaty caw followed by a blood curdling scream coming from Zera. I was on my feet in an instant, clawing my way up the face with the one good arm I had. I could feel the blood flowing down my face and imagine it would have obscured my vision, if it hadn't been so dark that I couldn't see regardless. A caw would erupt, then a scream, followed by another caw. I didn't know any more if it was a battle, or a slaughter. Nearing the crest where I could finally get up there and do… something, I was confronted with a terrifying silence. This caused me to move even faster. Finally on my feet at the top, I sprinted toward the fire. Almost to the illuminated area, I tripped over a body and was met with a face full of dirt. Turning quickly and wiping the my eyes clear, I saw that it was not Zera, but the creature. It was laying motionless with my hatchet and her pick embedded in its torso. I could see just behind it, a pair of human feet and I rushed over. Dragging her into the light, see she was in shock. A tear through her bicep cut deeply into her chest. I quickly pulled off my shirt and put pressure on her wounds. I had little idea as to what I was doing. I could see the pain in her face and dug through a stash of berries she set aside, pulling the black ones and quickly mashing them between two rocks. I fed the resulting serum to her with my fingers. She slipped slowly into an unconscious state, a least she wouldn't have to feel the pain this way. I managed to stop the bleeding soon after that. She woke up every three or four hours for the rest of the night. It was heart breaking to see her come to realize the horrible situation she was in every time. I would tell her it was going to be ok, give her some water and put her back to sleep with more berries. She was right when she said earlier that it was going to be a long night. The next morning I figured it was the best time to move and I started getting ready. Unloading the supplies from the sleigh we had made earlier, I was able to load her onto it. I had to get her back to safety She was starting to come around. I assume that I had roused her while moving her onto the now stretcher. Still bleary eyed, but semi conscious, she stared up at me "I need you to do something for me." Her voice was weak and distant. "Anything" I responded. "Check under the raptor." She said. I walked over to the dead monster and got to my knees. Placing good hand under the limp body, it seemed a lot heavier than it looked. I pushed and lifted until I was able to turn it over. Laying on the ground was a pistol. Picking it up and turning it over, I could see the rough craftsmanship that went into its production. It was a simple six shot revolver and pulling the cylinder out I noticed that it was not loaded. I brought it over to Zera and began to hand it to her, but she stopped my hand halfway and pushed the pistol back into my chest saying "For you." [link] [comments]

Is this game fun for a casual player? Posted: 03 Mar 2019 09:13 AM PST A friend of mine would like me to play this game, and it looks so fun! However, we'd probably play together an hour or so a week and I'd be solo the rest of the time. Are there free PVE servers, or can I host us on my laptop? I wouldn't mind playing by myself, but I don't have time time right now to join a tribe and protect things when I'm offline. Is it worth the purchase at this point in my life? I did put in a zillion hours in Raft, so I probably have a decent amount of solo time, and that was fun... but no one could kill me or my pets. :) [link] [comments]

What was the reasoning behind managarmr ice breath dismounting players ? Posted: 02 Mar 2019 03:15 PM PST Most people agree that things like cnidara or purlovias that dismount you are annoying as fuck. Why did wildcard think it would be a good idea to make a UNDODGEABLE LONG RANGE HITSCAN LASER ACCURATE attack that dismounts you ? It is interesting to note that snow owl freeze does not dismount, and even ice titan snowballs can not do that. [link] [comments]
Posted: 03 Mar 2019 07:06 AM PST I'm playing ark on the windows 10 edition and I run a dedicated server on my pc for myself and a few friends, we all play on our Xbox's. It was working fine for a week up until recently, we moved into a much larger base with loads of dinos. Anyway we logged back onto the server earlier and at first I was getting kicked but when I finally got on I was running smoothly. Whenever my friends log on however they spawn in without their loot, half the base isn't loaded, it doesn't show they are connected on my pc's server panel and then they get kicked within a minute or two. Could this be happening because of the large base and if so is there a work around, if you know a fix/solution please let me know I'd greatly appreciate it. [link] [comments]
