is the old way of playing the game on official pvp dead? Posted: 17 Feb 2021 09:38 AM PST some context: when i first bought the game, open transfers weren't a thing and everyone would build up a base, form a tribe, and then you would have tribe vs tribe warfare. each server had its own community and there was a strong sense of "be nice to thy neighbors or they'll stomp your face in" obviously that went away when transfers were opened up, but last time i played, each individual server still had their own community and all the tribes on each server, while they would still sometimes fight each other, they would mostly bank together and defend the server from people raiding from other servers. even during this time it was quite common for 2-4 friends to join an official server and build up a base from scratch that would last months, if not years while they slowly gain new members and grow their tribe fast-forward to today, I'm watching youtubers and lurking here on the reddit to catch up to speed with everything that's happened since i last played. i cant play atm due to irl stuff, but that'll be changing soon (hopefully) so I'm trying to gather as much info as i can for when i start playing again. so what am i seeing from my information search? all I'm really seeing is a bunch of youtubers telling everyone that building bases is pointless and killing random players trying to transfer at obelisks and raiding small bob bases while keeping all your stuff in a single vault in the ocean or a sky quetz is the only "viable" way to play the game if you're not part of a huge multi-server mega tribe. they say taming things, gathering resources, and crafting things is pointless because you can just kill other players and raid bases for everything you could ever want. is there any truth to that? is base building really dead? is holding onto your stuff for more than a few weeks because its stuffed inside a puny box at the bottom of the ocean waiting for someone to find it really the only "viable" way to play if you aren't part of a mega tribe? or is this just the opinion of a few solo youtubers who are hooked on the dopamine rush and instant gratification that play style offers. that play style just doesn't seem fun to me. i don't want that fast paced "loot, run, and hide" play style. i like building up a large heavily fortified base to defend against other tribes and, tbh, a base that players like this cant even touch because they have such little possessions to their name. and joining a mega tribe always leaves me demotivated because I'm jumping into a huge built up base that i did nothing to build up myself. i need that sense of "i/we made this myself/together" or else i loose the will to keep playing. i could go to PVE servers for base building, but what's the point when there's no1 to defend it against? might as well make a stone box and call it a day. i could go to unofficial, but finding something that doesn't have stupidly high boosted rates and doesn't get admin-wiped once per month so that "every1 gets a fresh start" or get shut down entirely because it hasn't been wiped in the past month is next to impossible. plus there's something about official servers and the completely permanent nature they have that appeals to me that unofficial just cant replicate TL;DR if i join an official pvp server with a few friends, is it still viable to build up a base and defend it more than just a few weeks? or is it only "viable" to cram everything into a hidden box and kill people for literally anything you could obtain? Posted: 17 Feb 2021 07:43 AM PST Can someone explain me how damage in ark works? I'm new on ark so... I noticed that damage is often different on other animals, how does this work? [link] [comments]
Posted: 17 Feb 2021 02:07 AM PST Always wondered, do any of you have a "sweet spot" in regards to what level dung beetle you go for? I've tamed lvls 50-100 and a few 150s but I dont reallly much of a difference in their weight capacity other than maybe .1 or .2 [link] [comments]
Posted: 17 Feb 2021 12:40 AM PST Hi! Today I was playing on official. Anyways, I was flying in my argy when the notification popped up: Iguanadon dead, Parasaur dead, Kangaroo dead. So sad, anyways, in the middle of the disaster it suddenly says I died. My argy is ok but I died midair, no contact and no affliction. When I revive in my metal hut it does not have a single hole, but my Therino is indeed hurt. Was this a hacker? Or is it possible to kill without contact or anything midair now? Like, really, no player was ticketed, I just died [link] [comments]

Breeding not dropping any valentine event item Posted: 16 Feb 2021 04:48 PM PST I've bred more than 20 dinos and not a single one of them dropped chocolate or candy. I play on an unofficial server and I can fish for the candy and chocolate but I can't seem to get anything from breeding. Is this a bug or is the drop rates that absurdly bad for breeding [link] [comments]
Best mods for single player? Edge of the map now insta killing players. Any fix? Posted: 16 Feb 2021 06:06 PM PST I've been playing on a private server with a few friends. We're playing on The Island and recently I've been hunting for a Tuso in the deep parts of the ocean but when I come in contact with the edge of the map, I get insta killed. It's unlike regular deaths, there's nothing in the log suggesting I died...it's almost like my character and the dino I'm riding just get deleted with no warning or indication. It's just, touch the edge of the world, respawn at base and lose everything with no hopes of corpse recovery. Now, we can rollback the server and undo the damage but this is just a bandaid fix to a much larger problem. Originally when we started this server, this didn't happen and has only been happening recently with the current Valentines Day patch/event. Originally, you'd come in contact with the edge of the map and it'd simply be treated as a solid wall but that was all. No auto death, no big deal. I was hoping someone might have some insight on how to fix this problem. Is it a server setting that can be adjusted? Or are we stuck with a permanent death wall looming on the far edges of our map?
