    ***INTERNAL SCREAMING***

    Posted: 29 Sep 2021 01:24 AM PDT

I spent the whole day in the snow biome in the island, I gathered fortunes of metal ores, crystals and oil, I needed wood immediately since I was freezing to death and had no fur suit so I needed warmth from my camp fire (I was on a raft house btw) but there was no trees and I had to go all the way around the cold biome, I kept dying because of the cold and respawning in my raft house until I finally reached the normal biome again and just as I was going towards the land... A very VERY VERY BIG SHARK DESTROYED MY RAFT AND EVERYTHING I HAD WTF I'M CRYING AND LAUGHING AT THE SAME TIME HELP

A quick run through of The Island lore so people don’t have to dig through themselves.

    Posted: 28 Sep 2021 06:57 PM PDT

As a disclaimer, I may misremember things but I'll do my best to explain the lore as quickly and throughly as possible. I'm on mobile so sorry for any formatting issues.

We start off on the Island with 4 main characters. Helena, Rockwell, Nerva, and Mei-Yin(Mei). Helena is fascinated with the island and quickly tries to document her findings. Her dossiers are the ones we find throughout our gameplay. She isn't the best survivor by any means but she does her best to understand The Island. Eventually she meets Rockwell.

He has been on the island long before her and begins experimenting with different recipes to help survivors on the island. He was seen as a voice of reason throughout the island and often negotiated deal between the different tribes. After spending a little time with Rockwell, Helena moves on. She respects Rockwell. However, Rockwell thinks that Helena is beneath him. He believes he is the smartest person around and no one comes close to his intellect.

Further on her journey she meets Mei-Yin. A woman from ancient Asia, most likely some time around 1360 ± 10 years. She is excellent at taming creatures and eventually earns the name,"The Beast Queen." Mei doesn't know what to think of Helena because during their first meeting Helena asked to examine Mei-Yins tames poop. After a little bit they part ways on good terms.

Nerva is from Roman times and quickly begins to take control of the islands territory's. His experience in the military makes him a fearsome tactician. He is the main antagonist on the Island.

Eventually Helena figured out that The Island must be artificial. She decides to explore the Ark's Obelisks to try to further understand the magical island she's on. During her travels she finds several artifacts that fit into the panels at the base of the Obelisk's. Rockwell finds out that she has been conducting experiments without her and gets super mad. He doesn't show it to her but he begins keeping his findings to himself.

Eventually Nerva's tribe gets Mei-Yin blacklisted from the tribe she was hanging around with. He attacks the village but leaves her part outside untouched. He also enraged her tames so that they caused damage making it seem like the attack was her doing.

Eventually Mai-Yin and Helena meet backup. Met-Yin is on a warpath, she wants Nerva dead.

Nerva believes The Island is the Roman Gods testing him. He begins using the Artifacts to fight The Islands bosses. During the Overseer boss fight Mei-Yin and Helena follow Nervas tribe through the cave, eventually catching up with them. I believe that Rockwell somehow convinced Nerva to allow him to come along but I'm not quite clear on the details here. Regardless, Rockwell ends up ascending and going to Scorched Earth.

When it's just Helena, Mei-Yin, and Nerva left in the Overseer room, Mei-Yin knocks Helena unconscious and duels Nerva. When Helena comes to all see finds is some blood but no trace of Helena or Nerva. She ascends and goes to Scorched Earth.

Mei-Yin and Nervas fate is not revealed until Aberration.

This ended up being long than I thought it'd be so I'll stop there. This is a very brief and watered down version of the story but it's still mostly accurate. I'm sure some of my details are slightly off but it still helps people understand the hidden lore of Ark a little better.

    ARK 2 Raiding and PVP

    Posted: 29 Sep 2021 08:56 AM PDT

I've played the game since a couple months after it was released in early access and have since stopped playing the game after a couple years of playing to coming back to it every once in a while because I just can't stay away. Though every time I've come back to it a couple of times I end up leaving it again after not too long, because of the time you have to put into the game or else you pretty much can't play it, mainly because of offline raiding.

I really love the open world survival genre and ARK brings something special to that with the ability to tame creatures and befriend creatures, specifically dinosaurs as I'm a much bigger fan of the primitive style of ark to what it is now. But as much as I want to play these kind of games I just can't do it, I know that if I want to play these games I would have to spend my life on the game to actually enjoy it, and that's not what a game should be.

Pvp out of base is great, you both get to have fun with a fight and the winner takes the spoils and you move on. Defending and raiding is also great fun for both, but getting online to find everything is gone is not, and I just don't see it as sustainable, or at least not as sustainable as another method. I checked out a game called Deadside, when I was looking for an alternative survival game that I could play with out being online all day and I think they have a system for no offline raiding and something where if someone kills you they get a raid token, which they can activate to raid you. Couldn't a system like this be looked into?

So to finish up I just want to know if anyone has any information to share about the pvp in general in ARK 2?

Will it be the same concept that's in ARK right now or is there going to be any changes?

For me purchasing ARK 2 right now, solely depends on weather or not there will be a significant change to improve the pvp.
