Hey everyone, I'm jamescoolcrafter15! Today I'm going to be discussing a hypothetical map idea for ARK: Survival Evolved. This maps name is Oceania. Now before I get any further, no this is not coming to the game and it is completely hypothetical. I am also not making this map as a mod, and if anyone wants to, message me. I am also not the only contributor to this map. Myself and many others have all worked together to make this, and I don't want to take credit for all of this. Also, if any of you would like, feel free to post your own ideas in the comments and maybe I'll put them on the list.
Without further ado, let's get into it.
Ok, so what is Oceania? Oceania would focus mainly on the waters of ARK. While most maps heavily focus on land, with very little focus of the oceans, Oceania would be focused almost entirely on the waters. In fact, 90% of the map would be covered in water, and only 10% of the map would actually be land. Out of the little land that would exist, it would be in the form of small islands and underwater caves, forcing you to spend lots of time in the water, where most of your playing would take place. The map would also have different game mechanics, creatures, items and tools to help with better surviving in the water.
Locations
If we have a map focused around water, we can't just have all of the areas look the same. Sure, lots of the map may look like The Island, The Center, Ragnarok or anything else, but there would be a lot of unique locations to make the map stand out from all of the others.
The map would be split into 6 "regions". These regions would be the Eastern Tropics, Polar Region, Thermal Zone, Western Tropics, Toxic Sea and Abyssal Plains / Open Ocean. Within these regions be different locations.
The Eastern Tropics would be a very sunny area where most of the spawn locations are.
The Polar Region would be located in the northern parts of the map and be very cold.
The Thermal Zone would be a very hot area near the center of the map and down south of it.
The Toxic Sea would be located in the northwestern corner and have Element tainted waters.
The Western Tropics would be just like the Eastern Tropics, but have no spawn locations. This makes it a sort of safe haven after you've gotten through all of the dangerous areas.
Sandbar Islands
These islands would be located around Refuge island, the Underwater Plains (although rarer) and the Coral Reefs. They are one of the beginner areas. They are quite similar to the ones between the bigger islands on The Center. For context, here is a picture of the ones on The Center.
The Eastern Islets on The Center map.
They would house smaller land dinos, the biggest being a Trike or so, with a rare Baryonyx spawn. You can find berry bushes, seeds for fruits and vegetables (which will become very important for indoor farming later on), rocks, palm trees, driftwood and Cnidarias occasionally washed up, which can be harvested for Biotoxin.
The Sandbar Islands would be located in the Eastern Tropics. Tundra Sandbars can be found in the Polar Region, more specifically the northeastern corner of the map.
Refuge Island
Refuge Island would be the biggest island on Oceania. It would be one of the spawn locations, and because of the water dominated map it still wouldn't be too big, about the size of or 2x the size of Carno Island on The Island map. Alternatively, it could be an island just a bit bigger than the rest of the Sandbar Islands, and make up an area called the Refuge Archipelago, where instead of a big island it would be a big collection of small islands right up next to each other. Because this map would focus on mainly water based PvP, no T-Rex's, Quetzals, Brontos, Titanosaurs, Paracers, Gigas or any other big creatures would spawn here or on the rest of the map. Or, they could spawn on Refuge Island and be untameable. Spinosaurus would spawn on Refuge Island, though, and be tamable.
To the north of Refuge Island would be the 2 swamps (the Deadly Swamp and Mangrove Swamp). Within Refuge Island itself would be a grassland and a small palm tree grove. A tunnel located in a cave on Refuge Island would lead to the Polar Region of the map, and the Abyssal Ravine would cut through the southwestern coastline of Refuge Island, containing a cave with lots of animals and plants within it. There would also be a third cave entrance within the center of Refuge Island, leading to the Artifact of the Force (one of artifacts custom to this map).
Starter Caves / Moonpool Caves
These caves would take up the majority of the spawn locations on the map, and make up most of the maps land. They would be located near other starter locations, and all around the map, and have moonpool entryways leading to areas like the Coral Reef and Kelp Forest. They would resemble areas like the Lava Oasis Cave on The Center. Within these caves would be small plants and animals like the Dodo Bird and Lystrosaurus. Some of the bigger ones could have palm trees and mushrooms which provide Fungal Wood in them, and most of them would also have early-game Aberration items like the different types of mushrooms or Green Jems
The Lava Oasis Cave on The Center.
These caves would be common spawn locations in the Eastern Tropics, but would be located all throughout the map.
Eastern Air Pocket
The Eastern Air Pocket would be located on the eastern drop off of just east of Refuge Island. It would be a temperate themed air pocket and would look a lot like the bubble on The Center. It would be one of the spawn locations and contain early-game creatures and resources, as well as some of the harmless swamp creatures like the Diplocaulus, Beelzebufo and Dimetrodon. It would also have one of the explorer notes.
Deadly Swamp
The one of the two swampy areas, this swamp would be more forested, and similar to the one on Ragnarok. There could be a few ruins here, but not much is to be said about here. You could also find Plant X seeds here, although they would be pretty useless in a water map. Unlike the Mangrove Swamp, this would be the more dangerous swamp, with Titanoboas, Leeches, Sarcosuchus and things like that.

The Deadly Swamp would be located in the Eastern Tropics.
Mangrove Swamp
The Mangrove Swamp would be the more friendly swamp, and home to more herbivores than carnivores (like the Moeritherium). Mangrove Trees would be a source of Rare Mushrooms and Wood, and the bushes in the mangroves have Rare Flowers.
The Swamp biome on The Island map.
The Mangrove Swamp would be found in the Eastern Tropics.
Coral Reef
The Coral Reef would be one of the early-game areas on Oceania. It would most likely be one of if not the first water area you come across. Due to little land this would probably be where most of your early-game is spent, and possibly even be where you set up one of your first underwater bases.
The Coral Reef would also be where most of the early-game resources are found. Driftwood can be found floating on the water's surface, and Pillar Coral and Pure Coral would be in abundance.
Early-game creatures like the Anomalocaris, Nothosaurus and Cryptoclidus can also be found here.
The Coral Reef would be located all throughout the map, but mainly in the Eastern Tropics. The Western Tropics would have the Coral Reef but you can not spawn in it. There would also be Coldwater Coral in the Polar Region.
Kelp Forest
Another early-game location, the Kelp Forest would be a tad more of a challenge than the Coral Reef. The water would be tinted green and more murky, making players have more of a need to make Primitive Goggles. The main resource of the area would be Kelp, of course, allowing players to have a more readily available food source and crafting material. Creatures like the Henodus and Crassigyrinus can be found here.
The Kelp Forest can be found in the Eastern Tropics, Polar Region and Western Tropics.
Underwater Plains
The Underwater Plains would be an early-game area found in Oceania. It would probably be where you set up your first underwater base, do to its flat ground which is perfect for planting Corals and abundance of herbivores. Some Sandbar Islands can be found here, although not as much as in the Coral Reef, and this would make for a good starting area. The Seagrass here can also be harvested for Fiber and Berry substitutes. Moeritherium can be seen walking on the bottom of the biome, similar to a hippopotamus. Other animals like Carbonemys, Archelon especially, Diplocaulus and Henodus can be found here, along with a smaller variant of the Ammonites (the Baculite and the Nautilus) and several passive fish and Cambrian fauna like the Trilobite. Many other creatures can also be found here.
Real life Seagrass.
The Seagrass plains can be found in the Eastern Tropics and Western Tropics.
Cylindrical Cave
The Cylindrical Cave (probably not the final name) would have been an Artifact Cave in Oceania. The entrance to the cave would be a bubble entrance (similar to the bubble membranes on The Center's underwater bubbles) found on the seafloor in the southern part of the map. The bubble entrance would only be accessible with a good amphibious tame that can go out of and into water and even potentially fly or glide (like a Water Wyvern or Sea Drake), or a Grappling Hook on a Crossbow or even a Zipline Anchor. You could get in normally by just swimming in, but it would be hard to get out. Once entered, the cave would have several disk-like geological formations on the sides. Each of these disks would be partial or complete, and have partial or completed arches leading to the disks above and below them. The disks would also have several land creatures and vegetation on them. The cave itself would also be very bright, similar to the Underground World on The Center. At the bottom of the cave, below all of the disks, would be a sea surrounded by a small ring of beach. Inside of this sea would be a Coral Reef, along with the creatures found in the one in the shallow areas of the map. The disk located above the sea would have a Mangrove Swamp on it. The final archway on the last disk would lead into a dark room with a red glow, and one of the Artifacts would be found there (probably the Artifact of the Killer), along with several dangerous creatures. The red room would also have a small pool of water in the middle, and large fungal like structures resembling red, huge Aquatic Mushrooms on the sides of the caves. Throughout the cave would also be several Loot Crates. Beside the Artifact Crate would also be a Boss Dossier (looking like the style the dodo-rex has). This could maybe be the dossier for the Leviathan.
This was a concept made by Mister_Muffin specifically for this cave.
Ice Flow
The Ice Flow would be located in the Polar Region of Oceania. It would be a large collection of floating ice pieces on the top of the water. No plants would be on top of them, and the main creature to spawn on them would just be Kairiku. In the waters below the Ice Flow would be a reef of Coldwater Coral and a Kelp Forest. Most of the water creatures found in this area would be mammals instead of reptiles, fish and amphibians.
An Ice Flow in Antarctica. The Icebergs and chunks of ice floating on the water would be present in the map.
The Ice Flow would be found in the Polar Region.
The Boneyard / Sailor's Graveyard
The Boneyard would be a unique location in Oceania. The Boneyard would indicate that a fight went down at one point during the ARK's past. The entire area would be littered with skeletons of whales and the sunken ships of previous explorers. The whale skeletons would provide Salt for any survivors looking to find some, and the sunken ships would contain Treasure Chests with highly valuable loot and blueprints.

The Boneyard / Sailor's Graveyard would be located in either the Polar Region or the Abyssal Plains.
Underwater Mountain
The Underwater Mountain would be a large, sunken mountain found in an extremely deep area of Oceania. It would be a very late-game area, extremely dark, and home to the Sea Drakes, which live in nests across the mountain. Late-game materials like Crystal, Metal and Obsidian can also be found here.
The Underwater Mountain would be found in the Abyssal Plains. The Underwater Mountain also stretches through some of the mountain.
Hatzegopteryx Spires
The Hatzegopteryx Spires are a small archipelago of rocky spires and flat topped stone beaches that protrude out of the ocean. They are the peaks of the Underwater Mountain which stick out of the water. There are 2 medium sized islands along with several other smaller sized islands and a multitude of rocky spires. The first of the two medium islands is on the left side of the huge abyssal Crack that stretches through the Underwater Mountain and is the biggest island, home to most of the Hatzegopteryx Nests and a spiral pathway that leads to the top. On the other side of the crack is the second of the medium sized islands, the one where the survivors ended up staying at for part of their journey. There you can find their old tents, burnt out campfire, rain barrel, boating dock and even a bridge connecting two of the large spires on this island. Below it is the smaller island. Surrounding these 2 islands are a number of small islands and rocky spires which jet out of the ocean. The animals that live consist of many Crustaceans and Mollusks, such as Trilobites, Lobsters, Crabs, small Squid, Octopus, Chitons and Barnacles as well as open-water fish. Land animals are mainly ones with flight, such as Ichthyornis and Pellagornis, with a few Diplocaulus and Dimetrodon that sun-bathe at the top of the rocks and of course, the iconic Hatzegopteryx.
Ball's Pyramid, the remnant of an extinct shield volcano in Australia.
Toxic Sea
The Toxic Sea would be a region of the map on Oceania. It would be characterized by its Element tainted waters and lack of large numbers of flora and fauna. The water would be toxic, and although a Hazmat Suit could do the trick, you would still run out of Oxygen and so you would need a Pollution Suit. Anomalocaris can be found near the Toxic Sea, but the water is still bad for them. Inside of the Toxic Sea you can find Corrupted Anomalocaris. Brine pools can be found in rivers and ponds on the bottom of the Toxic Sea, and near the Element Fields the Brine is replaced by Liquid Element. Skeletons and bones of different animals can also be found scattered all around the seafloor, similar to the Boneyard, and these provide a source of Salt for any survivors looking to find some.
Element Field
A cave which is found in the Element Field. This cave would resemble a sealed ravine, like a huge crack running through the ground, with a river of Liquid Element on the bottom and waterfalls coming out of the sides. In this cave you would find the Artifact of the Shocking.
Element Crevice
A cave which is found in the Element Field. This cave would resemble a sealed ravine, like a huge crack running through the ground, with a river of Liquid Element on the bottom and waterfalls coming out of the sides. In this cave you would find the Artifact of the Shocking.
