Things you should be aware of regarding Chibi-Pet bonus levels

    Posted: 16 Apr 2021 10:39 PM PDT

Beyond the basics, I was unable to find any useful details about how Chibi-Pet levels work on the wiki or anywhere else, so I did what any sane person should avoid doing, and spent nearly a week hunting Alpha Creatures almost full time on official servers.

After a very long and exhausting hunting trip, the little guy finally reached his maximum level. Parts of the experiment also had to be done using two different characters, in order to test how multiple people could be interacting with and benefitting from the bonus levels. Below I have compiled a list of things that work and things that don't work, as far as my findings go.

The Experience a Chibi-Pet can earn:

    • Increased Experience from game events will be applied to your equipped Chibi-Pet when killing Alpha Creatures. (Tested on an official server during ARK: Eggcellent Adventure 6)
    • Increased Experience from Explorer Notes will not be applied to your equipped Chibi-Pet when killing Alpha Creatures. (Tested on an official server using normal Explorer Notes)
    • If you fail to have your Chibi-Pet equipped the moment when killing an Alpha Creature, it won't provide any Experience for your Chibi-Pet, even if you equip it right after. (Tested on an official server)

The bonus levels you can achieve:

    • Simply equipping an already leveled Chibi-Pet that's one or more levels beyond your current progress will not grant you any bonus levels or affect your leveling. (Tested on an official server)
    • Killing an Alpha Creature while having a leveled Chibi-Pet equipped that's one or more levels beyond your current progress will not grant you any bonus levels, unless this particular kill resulted in your Chibi-Pet leveling up. (Tested on an official server)
    • Leveling up a Chibi-Pet that would have been granting levels one or more steps beyond your current amount of bonus levels will still only grant you one bonus level. (Tested on an official server)
    • You can only gain a new bonus level when your Chibi-Pet is leveled up to grant a level higher than one you already achieved. (Tested on an official server)

Below are some tables with examples of how you could or could not progress with a Chibi-Pet, and why it's a good idea to level everything yourself and beng as straightforward as possible. The tables should also function as a way to make the things discussed above easier to understand and visualize.

    • Chibi-Pet level refers to what level a Chibi-Pet you have equipped would be leveling up to at that specific point. Depending on which table you are looking at, this number could be referring to the levels of either one, or multiple Chibi-Pets.
    • Total bonus levels refers to the amount of bonus levels the player will have once they reach the current threshold.
    • Alpha XP to level up refers to the amount of Experience that's needed from killing Alpha Creatures to level up a Chibi-Pet one time, in order to reach the level currently being discussed. This value is derived from the game.
    • Alpha XP total refers to the total amount of Experience earned from killing Alpha Creatures that would have been needed to reach that specific stage. Depending on how you choose to approach the task, this number could become absurdly high.

Here we see what it would take for someone who leveled their own Chibi-Pet properly from start to finish without any complications:

Chibi-Pet level Total bonus levels Alpha XP to level up Alpha XP total
    2 1 30,000 30,000
    3 2 105,000 135,000
    4 3 405,000 540,000
    5 4 465,000 1,005,000
    6 5 1,020,000 2,025,000

Here we see a hypothetical warning example of what could be like for someone who tried leveling multiple stolen and pre-leveled Chibi-Pets:

Chibi-Pet level Total bonus levels Alpha XP to level up Alpha XP total
    6 1 1,020,000 1,020,000
    6 2 1,020,000 2,040,000
    4 3 405,000 2,445,000
    4 3 405,000 2,850,000
    2 3 30,000 2,880,000
    3 3 105,000 2,985,000
    4 3 405,000 3,390,000
    6 4 1,020,000 4,410,000
    5 4 465,000 4,875,000
    6 5 1,020,000 5,895,000

Here we see a hypothetical example of an impossible scenario that could NOT actually happen, where a player would find and level up a high-leveled Chibi-Pet despite not actually having made that progress themselves yet:

Chibi-Pet level Total bonus levels Alpha XP to level up Alpha XP total
    2 1 30,000 30,000
    3 2 105,000 135,000
    6 5 1,020,000 1,155,000

Here we see what would actually happen if someone tried doing what they did in the example above:

Chibi-Pet level Total bonus levels Alpha XP to level up Alpha XP total
    2 1 30,000 30,000
    3 2 105,000 135,000
    6 3 1,020,000 1,155,000

The conclusion we can draw from all this would be the following:

The only time when a Chibi-Pet is useful for you is when it's leveling up. Not when it's leveled up. You can never gain more than one bonus level when leveling up a Chibi-Pet, regardless of what level it just reached. A Chibi-Pet can only provide a total of five bonus levels. These five levels could all go to one player, or be split between multiple players. In the latter case, neither player would gain the full benefit.

Do not steal other players' leveled Chibi-Pets hoping they would be a shortcut for you. It will not work the way you'd hope. In the end, doing so would most likely put you in a situation where you'd need to put in more work and effort than if you had just leveled one Chibi-Pet yourself from start to finish.

What maps can we travel to to summon the broodmother? We’re on crystal isles but only have wyvern queen as the option.

We have the 3 artefacts needed for doing gamma. Just want to know what maps are a possibility? I assume the island would be an option but wondering what others its allowed on, thanks

    Where to start? (Returning player)

    Posted: 17 Apr 2021 09:17 AM PDT

    Hi all,

I havnt played Ark in about 5 years but all the updates over the years(and genesis 2 coming soon) has me invested again.

That being said, I feel overwhelmed and confused as to where to start. I figure at the most basic level, I should start on The Island? And it looks like I should have multiple bases on different maps because I can transfer items and dinos between maps? I honestly don't understand it all.

Overall, I want to experience all the bosses and the story line. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get experience that?

    Creative on Console

    Posted: 17 Apr 2021 02:19 AM PDT

So basically I used creative while playing Aberration, and since then my achievement skins keep resetting so I want to start fresh in hopes that it'll fix, but when I deleted my map the problem continued. What I want to know is if using creative mode is binded to the map or if it's binded to the survivor, and if It is binded to the survivor will deleting the survivor fix it?

    Changes for SP

    Posted: 16 Apr 2021 09:29 PM PDT

Just got back into the game and have been playing single player. I want to do a full run through the entire story (all canon maps), but I wish to know what changes I should make to make it less of a grind.

I'm very new to arks advanced settings, so what do you all suggest I change so that I can do a full play through without having to grind an army of dinos to make it past one boss. Don't mind a bit of difficulty, but I'm in college and have a job so spending days trying to breed the perfect Dino isn't something I'm into.

I don't want to use a lot of mods either, like playing games in vanilla, but if they are some that are extremely useful I would like to know about them.

Thanks I'm advance, also I'm on PC.

Game crashes a lot (PS4 Pro)

    Posted: 17 Apr 2021 04:46 AM PDT

Especially when traveling, my game suddenly crashes and error CE-34878-0 appears. Anyone having the same issue, or is this my PS4 Pro being weird?
