PSA: In addition to the mission area restrictions, most of the map is 6x damage.

    Posted: 28 Feb 2020 07:28 AM PST

The exceptions are the volcanic biome and the lunar biome.

Feel free to test for yourself.

It appears wildcard just doesn't like it when people build bases.

Bonus pro-tip, a level one magmadar can one shot metal structures with a direct hit from as far as 105 foundations away on 1x damage (nearly render). I'm sure splash damage also 1 shots under 6x.

    So far, 10/10 DLC

Genesis Is Getting Too Much Hate (Hear me out!)

    Posted: 28 Feb 2020 09:08 AM PST

So as some of you may know, the highly anticipated Ark Genesis released recently, and the reception it's received has, in general, been negative (at least from what I've seen). It seems like the most unappealing aspect of the DLC to most people are the maps, among numerous other things. However, in this thread I would like to combat these complaints with my own personal opinion and perception of the DLC, and hopefully change your view of Ark Genesis. So without further ado, let's get started.

    ...

1.) Possibly the biggest complaint I've seen, on both this sub and on other sites, is that the only way to access other biomes is by teleportation. I too initially disliked this idea. However, when I actually began playing Genesis my opinion changed. It feels like with the new maps, I'm constantly doing something and constantly exploring different places. On other maps like the island, I probably would have only explored the beach by now, whereas this map actually promotes exploration.

2.) People are comparing it too much to Ragnarok. But honestly, I feel like the same could be said about all the other DLCs. Ever since Aberration, if a map isn't the size of Ragnarok, then to some players it isn't worth their time. In my opinion, not every map needs to aim to be like Ragnarok - a big sprawling map that has resource rich areas. And I especially feel this way about Ark Genesis. Wildcard does not seem to be aiming for that with these maps. They appear to be more focused on having the player constantly be doing something fun. For proof of this, look no further than the mission system. Ark Genesis is obviously meant to be different from the other DLCs.

3.) I often see people say that the creatures are useless and won't matter outside of Genesis. While it is true that the creatures introduced aren't as impressive as those from other DLCs, I think that may have been Wildcard's intent. During the extra life stream back in November, the devs stated that balance would play a huge role in Genesis, after what went down in Extinction with managarmers and the titans. I think the general idea was to make each of these creatures only useful in certain situations and areas. For example, the magmasaur will likely only be used in deserts and volcanic biomes, the giant turtle in the oceans, the astrocetus during raids, etc. See my point? No one creature will be used for every situation. The only exception to this rule would be the bloodstalker, however even now I've seen quite a few posts revolving around how difficult these creatures are to tame. In my opinion, in terms of balance, this is the best DLC so far.

4.) "It's a PVE map." This statement gets thrown around a lot and I don't necessarily agree with it. While pve definitely was considered in the creation of this map, it's doesn't necessarily mean that PvP wasn't accounted for. I think the problem is that most people aren't looking at the big picture. What do I mean by this? Generally, when it comes to PvP, bigger maps are better to use since you can have a large number of people on one map compete without constantly running into each other. Therefore, to a PvP player, all they see is 5 small PVE maps that are horrible for setting up a base on. However, this type of map may actually work better for PvP players than other maps would, with the reason being the cause for why most people dislike the map. And that's because the areas are sectioned off from one another. Think about how many posts a day go up on this sub complaining about how alpha tribes dictate the other players. On this map, it's much less likely for that to happen when they would essentially have 5 different maps to look over. In reality, they could only ever control one or two biomes, while a player moves over to a different map and starts up there. That, along with the new hexagon system makes Genesis one of the best PvP maps yet in my opinion.

5.) Finally, my last point revolves around the difficulty. I've seen many people (not just on this sub but on other sites as well) complain about just how difficult the map is for starting out. I agree that it is difficult, but I think it was implemented really well. It's not the same type of difficulty that you'd find on the Island, or Aberration. The challenges you encounter don't just set you back, but rather make you improve. The environments force you to adapt to your environments and get good at the game very quickly in order to succeed. The learning curve implemented was done very well I think.

I could probably go on even more if I wanted too and talk about the no-build zones, and the items included, but I feel like I covered the main points. I hope this post helped change your view of the Ark Genesis DLC and may even help you enjoy it more. Thank you for reading!

PSA: Megachelon is nearly defenseless against Cnidaria

    Posted: 28 Feb 2020 11:01 AM PST

On our private server we're testing out the genesis creatures while on Valguero (not going to rant about all the problems with the genesis map right now) and I wanted to warn everyone about a major problem with the giant turtle. Jellyfish are a nightmare for the turtle because:

It's too slow to outrun them

It has an incredibly hard time hitting them with melee at all

You can be shocked off the saddle and it will become chain-stunned

Bubble breath has no affect on them

Auto turrets/plant species x WILL NOT TARGET THE JELLYFISH.

Thankfully the turtle has a massive health pool so if it does get beset by jellyfish you have a good while to try to get it free and your turrets can take care of other threats that approach, but the jellyfish have to be killed by the player. If anyone has a server setting that I can put in the game.ini to force turrets to target jellyfish I would appreciate it but otherwise DO NOT TAKE A TURTLE ANYWHERE NEAR JELLYFISH.

PSA: How to quickly grow vegetation on your megachelon's shell.

    Posted: 28 Feb 2020 09:44 AM PST

Been seeing these posts crop up a bit recently, so figured I'd made a quick guide.

All you need to do, is place as many rare flowers and rare mushrooms in the turtle's inventory as you can. If you're able to put a couple thousand of each - you'll notice the vegetation hit max in about an in-game day or less.

Once you drop all the rare flowers/mushrooms in the inventory, all you need to do is wait. The more flowers and mushrooms - the faster the growth occurs.

Have made a more in-depth post on this topic, when researching the best method. You can check that out here if you like. I've tested almost every other resource in the game, as well as trying to use re-fertilizer and such on it's back. The wiki mentions azul and amar berry seeds, but when I tested it out, these made little to no difference.

How to tell if its working intentionally or a bug? (Basilisk taming on Genesis)

    Posted: 28 Feb 2020 08:59 AM PST

Hey guys, I want to know whats the best way to contact a dev/support to make sure something is working as intended or if its a bug?

I spent my whole day yesterday on Genesis hunting Magmasaur eggs and hunting a high level basilisk so I can finally tame a good mule to help with my farming, and no matter what I did I couldn't get the basilisk to eat the Magmasaur egg.

I do know that basilisks only take rock drake eggs, but with magmasaur eggs being basically Genesis's version of rock drakes, I figured the basilisk would eat them. So are Basilisks untamable on Genesis? Or is this just a bug? I would really like to know before I dispose of these low lvl Magmasaur eggs. Putting flying dinos in on a no flyer map is one thing, (argents make decent mules), but then putting in basilisks that cant even be tamed in the first place..?

[MINOR SPOILERS] Wildcard just answered "Why dinosaurs?"

    Posted: 27 Feb 2020 10:23 PM PST

As I'm reading over the glitches, tidbits and explorer notes of Genesis Part I, Ive been finding a lot of history and lore.

But I also found out "Why dinosaurs?" It turns out it's not just us players who think it's odd, HLN-A does too!

The answer? They were used as test subjects and they worked so well the creators kept using them. Essentially some coder had a hard-on for dinos and used them as test subjects and the boss really liked it.

Hilariously simple and human. No real twisted, lore-based explanation. Just some guy really liked Jurassic World.

Crossbows not multiplying damage? Possible bug?

    Posted: 28 Feb 2020 10:13 AM PST

Since the patch our private server is not multiplying damage on crossbows(only weapon I've tested)

Prim crossbow 200% and 500% are all doing 95 damage. Tried crafted a new one with blueprint, it too is doing 95. Anyone else experiencing this? Is it due to patch, or something that got messed up in server's settings. Anyone else experiencing this or know how to fix it?

How can I stop this whistle issue?

    Posted: 28 Feb 2020 03:19 AM PST

Is there any way I can fix this issue where every time I whistle and I happen to be aiming at a dino my guy instantly whistles follow one? It ends up negating my actual whistle (whistle stop all or move for example) if I whistle quickly. If I just hold B (on xbox) it instantly whistles follow to the dino I'm looking towards.

Not sure if this is a bug or a setting I accidentally turned on, only started happening after this most recent update.

    Insect swarms are the worst

    Posted: 27 Feb 2020 09:28 PM PST

I have not experienced anything fun about these things at all. Unless maybe losing 750 bloodpacks because a swarm targeted me during bloodstalker taming is considered fun. There is tons more dumbness about them, but I'd rather just stop thinking about it right now. Remove them please - forever.

    Bosses on Genesis?

    Posted: 28 Feb 2020 01:22 PM PST

The wiki says that there are some of the base game bosses on the genesis map, particularly the dragon and broodmother. Does anyone know where you can start the boss fight for these? Also do they drop the tekgrams they do on the island?
