    The weight stat is very strange

    Leveling up weight in ARK isn't as straightforward as people think.

    On default settings, the base weight for a player is 100. For each point the player puts into weight, their effective carry capacity increases by 10. Right?

    Well no, actually not.

    At any given weight stat, only 85%1 is usable before the player becomes encumbered. When this occurs, they will move very slowly, and be unable to sprint or jump. This means that the last 15% of the player's weight stat will be more or less useless under most circumstances.

    At base stats, those 15% equals 15 weight units. However, for someone that put 40 points into weight and thus have a weight stat of 500, those 15% translates to 75 weight units being mostly useless. This also means that each time you upgrade your weight stat and seemingly increase it by 10, in reality you're only increasing your effective carry capacity by 8.5. You also increase the amount of useless weight by 1.5 for each point you invest.

    When being encumbered, you move slower and slower during the final 15% of your carry weight. Right?

    Well no, not that either.

    Once 97.914% of the weight is being used, the player becomes completely unable to move. This is odd, seeing how 100% would be the most logical place to set the limit. Comparing that to another stat, such as health; having the limit at 97.914% is as if the player would die once their health dropped down to 2.086%. It does not have a major impact on the gameplay, but it's still strange.

    NOTICE: The statements and numbers in this post are based on my current knowledge, testing and calculations. If anyone could provide information showing that any form of error has been made, the information above would be outdated and/or inaccurate. Until such however, I will assume this information is accurate.

    1. According to the wiki, this number should be 85%. The actual number is, according to testing, closer to 84.998%. This is however extra confusing and doesn't affect the result in a significant or relevant way.

    I play on ark single player, not servers because my first 5 experiences were getting chased by a "cool gang" of 9 year olds with tek shit. I have a frog t rex, sarco, 2 carno's, etc. I have a dodo farm with a lot of non fertilized dodo eggs, and I have an argentavis and ankylo, so I can get metal easily. The thing is, how do I progress? It gets boring playing alone and I never do any progress just sit on my t rex and walk around the map, any tips on how to actually start making progress?

    Underwater OSD Defense

    Hello ark players for the last few weeks I have been working on a map with a heavy underwater focus that will have most of the genesis and extinction content. Since the map will be largely underwater I thought that it would make sense to have some of the OSD defense events underwater which spawn underwater corrupted creatures and requires players to breed underwater dinos to beat. However I need help from actual ark players to determine exactly how difficult each tier of OSD defense should be. That's why I've created a test map that has spawn points for all 4 difficulties of OSD defense.

    If you wish to help there is a link to the map below so you can install it. Once installed you will spawn on a platform above an artifical lake which has a spawn point in each corner for each tier of OSD. Make sure to spawn in the necessary gear and dinos beforehand then go near one of the drops to activate it. Once your done with the test map make sure to tell me any issues you had with the test such as difficulty or bugs so I can adjust the OSD drops.

    Thank you to everyone that participates ahead of time. Whenever WildCard releases a new map or DLC they need to spend several weeks tuning difficulty/rewards to make it playable so through this public testing I am to avoid that poor experience for my players.

    TEK ATV

    Soo I didnt even know this thing exists until now. Had to try something out on a local ark and saw it. Its reaaally buggy tho and as far as I know it has been in the game for a while. Does anyone know if Wildcard just forgot about it or they dont care about fixing it anymore?

    S+ Mutator / Mutations

    Hey, so trying to get into breeding super Tek Rexs on my Unofficial. It has the S+ Mutator. I think i'm fairly versed on breeding in general. After watching several videos and guides I just wanted someone who does this to confirm a few things!

    So I have 2 Rexs Male and Female with 0/0. They are same stats. Going to use Mutator and breed. So just wondering about the scenarios below.

    If I get a Female with desired Melee mutations, I take that and breed back into the clean 0/0 Male? Do I do the same if I get a Male with the right mutates, breed back in with clean females?

    Where I get a little mixed up is the whole stacking Mutates on one side, or trying to force it on one side. Do I always only want to replace the clean male with better mutated males that have mutates on the Matrilinial side, so ensuring the Patrilinial stays clean? Is there a case to gender swap if I get one or the other side?

    Are there any do's or don'ts to consider, or tips you can offer to make the process more streamlined? I heard that as the Mutator can change gender I can use that to force or swap the Mutates to one side or another. I'm starting this evening so any help is appreciated. Sorry for wall of text, I just keep doubting myself on doing it right, but gonna try anyway.

    Coloring Problem.

    I can't admin colors my drakes feathers. The command is settargetdinocolor 1 (color id). It disappears from my admin bar as soon as I type it. Plz help.

    odd white aftereffect in this patch

    is it just me or anyone else also having a white effect on their screens? its especially obvious when you move your mouse or strafe left right while looking at stone walls

    Genesis Bug Thread II: Electric Boogaloo

    Compiled a list of Genesis bugs again since there's been a few big updates and i've found a few more major bugs. This isn't a 100% complete list of everything reported, mostly just the ones I personally know about.

    Major Changes since Genesis release (Not a bug)

    • New dino colors ID 57-100!

    • Wild raptors can no longer pounce

    • Most event content removed from the game; using ActiveEvent no longer works due to removal of assets (including the event color chance on newly spawned dinos).

    • 🚫 symbol on some items resulting from the "force prevent grinding" flag

    • cheat fly speed massively increased

    • (Probably not a bug) Swamp Fever now transfers between servers rather than being removed on character upload. The only way to get rid of it now is the antidote or transferring to Scorched for whatever reason.

    • Cryosickness removed from official PvE servers. Unofficials can enable this via config (though I recommend Dino Storage over cryos regardless)

    Bugs (Confirmed)

    • "Mysterious tick damage" in Lunar Biome only on non-dedicated - caused whenever a wild dino enters one of the green gas vents, it does a 10 damage AoE over a massive area (including wild dinos, players, ect.) instead of just doing 10 damage to the wild dino like on dedicated. This also oddly will fully restore all other stats (fills stamina/food, drains torpor to 0, ect.) and as a result prevents most dinos in the biome from being tamed if they're anywhere near them.

    • Tek Trike, Tek Giga (not the mission one), and Rare X-Sabertooth Salmon will despawn on restart when outside the Genesis map. (Normal X-Salmon seemed fine)

    • Multiple Genesis spawners broken in non-dedicated making many creatures impossible to find on the map (RIP X-Salmon, Crabs, and more)

    • Wild Aberrant Raptors still able to pounce due to having some overrides in their attack infos that caused whatever was changed in the parent to not pass down

    • Glowtails not spawning in Lunar due to their spawn entry having Featherlights set instead (likely not intentional given that Glowtail is specified in the spawn entry)

    • Certain cave spawners in the Volcano are causing the spawned creatures to be untameable (but only certain ones - it's almost random what is/isn't tameable in there regardless of species. Notably if it's lacking the "wild" prefix it is 100% untameable)

    • Ocean biome disconnecting/crashing players often

    • (Unsure on exact cause) Tamed dinos dying in the Ocean Biome, usually when inside one of the underwater "cubes" (though apparently also happens in a large AoE radius outside as well). One report stated anything above a certain health number actually survived but nothing else.

    • Bloodstalker web invisible on non-dedicated

    • HLN-A getting stuck on emotes in non-dedicated

    • Certain transfer situations will wipe all Genesis mission completion data (unsure on exact cause)

    • Unable to re-mount on dino after fixing a glitch if the dino is too close to the spot where the glitch originally was. (Also apparently prevents dropped items and such from being picked up - it basically just overrides the E key in the entire area)

    • Teleporting with HLN-A often not taking the dino with the player

    • Green rings on most modded feeding troughs (including S+)

    • (Unsure if fixed) Bred ferox randomize their stats when transforming

    • (Unsure if fixed) Ferox tamed through normal methods (with element) not getting any post-tame levels

    • Ferox breeding bugs apparently (might be replication if breeding is disabled by default and enabled manually)

    • Wild Dinos aggroing onto players doing ice fishing mission (i'm still considering this a bug unless confirmed intentional)

    Bugs (Unconfirmed)

    • Ferox Despawn - This seemed to be for only Ferox tamed very early on, notably was NOT detected by any programs that search the savegame for dino files (possibly not being serialized properly)? The bug is specific to the Ferox itself and persists through cryopods/ect.

    • Parakeet Fish School (aka microbe swarm) not properly aggroing onto players

    • Apparently some bugs with timer on reaper pregnancy (frozen and not updating)

    • Wild Ferox "cloning" themselves by either respawning twice from the same large ferox or not despawning when large form is spawned

    • Final Boss of Genesis causing dinos/ect to vanish on completion (possibly related to alliances)

    Recently fixed (allegedly)

    • Player immediately killed with no loot cache when equipping an Equus with a saddle if already riding it

    • Cryopods unintentionally removed from HLN-A shop

    • Deinonychus saddle engram removed from the game

    Official pvp Lunar Base?

    For those insane and godly few, who are main basing our of lunar, where are you guys building at?

    I love this biome, and I've made a couple other threads discussing similar things, but for the life of me I cannot find a good pvp spot here.

    The caves are obviously off limits, now with them being mission areas, but even beyond that, being such high traffic locations for taming ab creatures.

    There are only a few handfuls of locations that dont get hit by meteors, and many less locations that also dont spawn insane amounts of aggressive dinos.

    I really want to build here on official, because I think it would make for some amazing base defense action, but I also dont want to be stupid and build where I'd eaisly be wiped.

    Any ideas? I would be greatly appreciative if anyone could post some cool base location coords.

    I've heard of one rathole somewhere in lunar, but I have no idea where it would be or if it even exists, but if you know a good rathole spot that isnt a broken mesh spot, please share it with the community!

    I've been playing on an official PVE Ragnarok server, and decided to make myself an ovis farm, because I was getting tired of the long flights to the highlands for mutton. However, after having tamed about 15 ovises total, and placing them in a little dedicated ovis breeding room, they seem to be unable to mate. No one is neutered, everyone has breeding enabled, and everyone is standing quite close, yet none of the females seem to be breeding with the male. Is there any way to fix this? Or am I stuck having to make vegetable cakes and instead of making an ovis farm, just keep a steady supply manually. Any help is appreciated, thanks so much.
