What Ark gameplay mechanics have made you go "WTH???" because of how they were implemented?

    Posted: 15 Feb 2022 01:11 PM PST

A recent " welcome to Ark" post made me think of this. Ark is my third survival game and i have been playing video games for 35 years so i have seem some "creative' ways of doing things. Ark has dumbfounded me on many occasions though as to why something is the way it is. So i though i would share some of the things that don't make sense to me:

    1. Lack of tutorial. The simplest of games have a tutorial. Nothing in Ark and it does things a little...weird in places. I spent a lot of time looking things up and about half of the questions i had were not answered on the wiki.
    2. I have like 5 seconds to feed this newly hatched baby before it dies but you throw a "name it!" in my face because that is priority! Or while i am fighting.
    3. My hand torch covers 3 times the radius as a standing torch....which would be backwards since i can make stationary torches as big as i want and a hand torch would burn my face off it was to big.
    4. Speaking of hand torches, I can gather while holding a torch but cant operate a one handed weapon while holding one???
    5. I actually like fishing in Ark and not just because of the loot. I like the mechanic of it. Why are baits such a PITA to get. Getting a supply of honey and keeping it longer than 5 minutes is like end game stuff. Primitive poles are pretty much useless. They could have made baits easier to acquire or at least less effective baits. It really is a shame that its a rather big effort to get started on fishing and experiencing this minigame.
    6. No terrain editing? I get it, you don't want people editing the terrain on official. But you could make it so that build pieces autolevel terrain within a certain range and when that piece is removed the terrain always reverts back to its original state. See how easy that was?
    7. Irrigation... WHY? You have this great flexible pipe and you just completely failed to properly implement it to make this mechanic ...logical. Instead we over complicate it with a bunch of fixed pieces. Flex pipe= connect to one end, draw to another point, fasten( anchor). It calculates the cost based on length. Instead we have to do these silly puzzles with this dysfunctional mechanic while the flex pipe was the answer and you epically failed at making that useful.
    8. Clipping = My bare raft can clip through a giant boulder making half of it disappear but trying to get an egg out from under my turtles wagging tail pushes me back every time. The tame traffic jams caused by an intruder are a nightmare to untangle.
    9. WHY ARE THERE NO FENCES/ENCLOSURES IN A GAME IN WHICH A PRIMARY MECHANIC IS TO HAVE "PETS"?!?!?!WHY!!!!!!! I hate(d) using regular walls to control tames.
    10. Structural Integrity fail = I can snap a stone ceiling to another ceiling with 1 snap point that is 3 pieces from any support, but if i remove this thatch wall piece right here and the thatch piece above it still have 3 snap points, it still fails and crumbles. As a real carpenter that works on real structures: That upper thatch wall section is a lot more likely to stay up than that stone ceiling that is like 10-15 meters from any support and is only connected on one side. The building system doesn't have to be realistic with real life physics but it needs to be consistent in the game and there are so many places it isn't.

These are ten of the "WTH with this game?" mechanics that i facepalmed over. What are some of the mechanics in ARK that made you WTH???

Official Server with level 400+ tames?

    Posted: 15 Feb 2022 11:30 PM PST

I just started playing ark a work ago so I didn't know about max levels and what not. I'm playing on Xbox and early on into my journey I was taming a pteradon and got beamed by a level 300 something poison wyvern, I didn't even know what a wyvern was.

Then the bombardment continued, I was killed by a level 400 bloodstained, followed by several like 300+ wyverns again, day after day. Everyone in global chat would always say "pvp blue" which is near where I was so I figured that was a hot spot and I'd move. I moved pretty far and it was fine for a while then I say someone on a level 400 shadowmane but he didn't kill me. Soon after I was raided and killed by a level 349 mana and then again today I was killed by apparently a level 412 bloodstalker, but I didn't even see it, all I saw was some guy in my base right before I died, I thought he had killed me but it said 412 bloodstalker.

Am I in a hacked server? I looked it up and all I could find was stuff from last year and earlier saying max level in official server is like 265 or something. Did wildcard change it and now there's no max or is this a hacked server? Any help would be greatly appreciated cause I'm thinking about going to a new server but not if it's the same thing
