- Even with all its bugs and glitches and some poorly handled PR events, I’m actually really happy with ark.

All the updates for new Dino's coming out almost weekly, new items being added every time, and an amazing base building/DINO TAMING core has me hooked. Once scorched earth came out I was very hesitant to buy. But man, what a balance of new and old. Felt like ark but very fresh and well thought out. I literally still use the boomerang. But every DLC feels well worked on and not like a cash grab. Especially extinction. Good job ark. You have flaws. But thanks for not killing us with micro transactions. [link] [comments]  | ||

| Posted: 26 Mar 2019 12:03 PM PDT Look wildcard. Don't ban the dude, but please meshing is beyond out of control. We got meshed ~6 hours of video being released. Everyone now knows how's to mesh, it's not HODs fault it's yours. Fix the game and thank HOD for showing the exploits that few were doing, and a lot We're effected from. If you don't fix these issues and unban HOD I'm sure ark will dwindle to a lower pop than Atlas HOD mad respect for showing wildcard how broken their game is/has been since pre release. | Texture problems with Extinction Posted: 27 Mar 2019 09:26 AM PDT I play on an Xbox and I own all the dlc. Now I would love to enjoy Extinction but it messes up the textures. Even for the other maps untill I do a hard reset and clear my cache. But even then the moment I set foot on that map it starts all over again. Will this be fixed anytime shortly? | my 2 cents on the state of the game (progression, defense, mesh, gear tier, bosses, tek) Posted: 27 Mar 2019 04:57 AM PDT I think this game has some elements that make it a lot better than others, like the wide variety of primitive and smithy tier options for combat, from bolas through spears to crossbows with grapples. it has some of the most fun mechanics at that level. the problem is that with standard rates the game is a bit of a drag, and it's so hard to find an unofficial server without either ridiculous rates or admin abuse. past that, when people become established, i feel like base defense is forced to be particularly stupid, and recent changes to the turret limit (which s+ breaks anyway) just favours people with the dlc really (velos aren't capped) honestly i feel like turrets, c4 and rockets should have always been way more expensive so it's more similar to a rust base defense, where the turrets are usually internal, and the idea is to honeycomb with triangles enough to make it too costly to raid. the combination of no offline protection and having to constantly fill turrets makes the game particularly grindy for solo players, and the entire system favours mega tribes, which, it seems super wasteful to even allow people to block off entire servers. because i played on mostly admined servers, i never really had a problem with meshing, didnt even know it was a thing until fairly recently other than when i'd accidentally gone under unfinished meshes in rag, but i can see how the chair, climbing hook and sleeping bag can be used to totally break the game. if i were wildcard i'd just disable the items entirely until there was a solution found. it's gotten so stupid ive seen youtubers putting meshed velos behind their base just to defend from meshers. weird meta. speaking of weird meta, i think the way blueprints work right now is one of the problems with the game, partly in that it negates player crafting skill a fair bit, partly the resource scaling (which combined with 1x rates adds a bunch to the grind) but then inversely, if somebody found a good blueprint that isn't too expensive suddenly they have a massive advantage - and does armor have too much of an effect on dinos and players? idk. objectively it's an odd system, and i know it's one of the parts of the game that works well, but if they did ark2 id like it if blueprints were learned entirely from fishing, in that your character has an idea to improve an item while fishing, and crafting skill was more dominant, mind wipes more expensive. i feel like the bosses (other than titans) are sort of left over from when ark didn't really even know what it was it's self. i don't think it's ever really been explained why there's a megapithecus, brood mother and dragon, compared to rockwell and the titans, its just strange - and honestly after seeing the model i feel like broodmother was kind of wasted in her lair which has fairy low lighting. maybe these bosses shoulda had lairs like ragnarok's lava golem and ice wyrm queen. what really makes no sense at all to me is that beating the bosses unlocks tekgrams. literally what? i mean i know it bases survival quotient off bosses beaten, but i mean, this seems like it was originally an afterthought bolted onto an afterthought. idk. my final point is about tek. i feel like it shoulda maybe been saved entirely for an ark2 on an upgraded engine that deals with all of these issues like grindy progression, stupid defense meta, tribe size, meshing, odd bosses, offline protection to allow people to play casually or better hiding spots - i mean i'm sure people could list 500 other things that need fixing or changing, but my point is that the best variety of combat occurs at the primitive stage, and having hundreds of turrets, tek forcefields, high tier weapons and armor, kind of detracts from that a bit. like, the stuff that's best balanced was always the primitive stuff, if they made an ark2 they could start from tek and balance what's there as well as primitive gear in ark1. oh yea and leedsichthys ruined boats, why didnt they make it easier to build cool looking boats. like in the homestead update promo they had a battleship, didnt specifiy that it was built on foundaitons and couldn't move, pretty funny really.
