Bit of background. The alphas were annoying so I bred up hundreds of dodos and now I’m scared.

    Leveling a cave saber

    Posted: 04 Sep 2019 07:54 AM PDT

So awhile back I posted about breeding and now I've bred me a snazzy saber for caves. My question for all you experienced cave divers is how should I level him? All melee? Half melee and half health? What do you think? I would think I'd need some health since things might get harry if I have to switch to using personal weapons on bats and such. Anyways just curious on your opinions. Thanks in advance.

    Cave of the massive

So ive been doing some cave runs on single player, and I'm looking for some tips on how to get through it. I brought a pelagornis in that absolutely desrroyed everything, but i found out you can't ride flyers in the cave. So what would be some good mounts?

No, the levels of oxygen in the atmosphere when the dinos were around were not that much different to today's, and for much of the Mesozoic were actually slightly lower than today's.

Insects were not giant during the Mesozoic (when dinosaurs existed), but some insects (and other arthropods) displayed gigantism during the Carboniferous, when atmospheric oxygen levels were higher. Lookup up Meganeura (giant dragonfly), Pulmonoscorpius (giant scorpion), and Arthropleura (giant millipede) to see examples. All of those existed in the forests and swamps of what is now modern day Scotland, though it's important to note that this was all many millions of years before the dinosaurs firs appeared.

Check out this graph of atmospheric oxygen over the Phanerozoic (the Mesozoic is from about 252 to 66 million years ago on the x-axis; for reference today's oxygen levels are about 21% of atmospheric composition) and this article for more info on the history of oxygen in Earth's atmosphere.

Gigantism of certain dinosaurs was not to do with oxygen levels in the atmosphere, and more to do with their lungs, metabolisms, and a certain amount of evolutionary pressure to not get eaten by large predators. Not all dinosaurs were large either, there were plenty of small ones.

With regards to giant sloths and dyer wolves and the such I imagine it takes a lot of resources to keep that going so when things get tough their small relatives do better in the long run.

The giant sloth Megatherium came much later than dinosaurs, even having a slight overlap in existence with humans (in fact we almost certainly played a part in its exctinction). Humans have also caused the local extinction of wolves from certain areas.
