    damn it, you caught me as i was off the pc. just my luck in life as i go to bed they drop the steam update. have fun everyone.

    Each biome looks great. They're all very pretty and have some great level design.. but not being able to fly/walk across the whole map is a bit shit.

    Having each biome locked into its little own area is a bad move.

    Traditional maps are a lot better.

    Genesis - No Build Zones

    Something has to be done about the massive no-build zones around Genesis. You can't place ANYTHING in a majority of the map because they're "mission areas."

    You can't place delivery crates, can't drop a Charge Lantern, no campfires for food. You can't even build on the back of a turtle because the majority of the ocean biome is designated as a Manta Race! Huge areas of the map have no purpose except for the single mission that can take place there. What's the purpose of making such a cool map, but blocking most of it?

    I can deal with no flyers, though it's a bit weird to have unique versions that serve no purpose, but so many areas that you can't build on because of all these minigames??

    EDIT: Just tested the scene we saw in the trailer earlier where some people had a tent next to the ice fishing minigame. Can't place a tent there, leading me to believe that's not replicable.

    Spoilers for Genesis ahead. Specifically, one enemy.

    Okay. So. These fucking insect swarm things are literally EVERYWHERE in the Bog biome. I literally can't walk 20 feet without seeing the text "You are being targeted by a Insect Swarm!"

    By themselves, they aren't terrible. They do less than 1 damage per hit, so it's not like you're going to just get torn to shreds by it in a manner of seconds. However...

    1) They inflict the stamina drain debuff, the same one that the Titanomyrma/Ants give you. And when you get hit a bunch by one or more Swarms, it lasts a GOOD FUCKING WHILE. Which can mean the difference between life or death in the Bog.

    2) There are so many of them, that even if you fend off one swarm, another will already be on it's way to fuck your shit. And half the time, if a swarm DOES manage to converge on you, surprise! It's actually three swarms.

    3) The ONLY way to fend off a swarm is by hitting it wildly with a torch. I don't know if a Flamethrower would work on them, but either way, it's a stupidly inefficient way of killing them. Because your torch WILL break before you even kill the swarm, forcing you to repair it once or twice mid-combat. Combine that with the fact that there's NEVER just one swarm, and you would literally be better off just running away than staying and fighting.

    4) Apparently, they can fucking kill you through structures and possibly even the mesh.

    5) If enough of them are around and decide to attack.... say goodbye to your FPS and life.

    This is easily a straight-up awful creature. I'd rank it up there with Cnidaria and Troodons on how much they can ruin your day. It SERIOUSLY needs a nerf, because the Bog biome is supposed to be the easiest biome to start in. I should not have to be running from fucking swarms all the time.

    Have lots of bloodpacks ready. Find a good one and let it grab you. It will eat the packs out of your inventory instead of taking your precious health juice, slowly taming it up

    My thoughts on Genesis after 10 hours of play on a small tribes pvp server for ps4.

    1.) The map looks amazing. The biomes are diverse and beautiful while offering intense and badass reskins of dinos. I love the new dinos added to ark. The bloodstalker is my favorite atm but we'll see as time goes on. BUT, having the map closed off with only allowing tping with HLNA just seems too restricting. That and spawning into certain areas seems like instant death if you don't load in quick enough or just spawn near op dinos.

    2.) No flying - I get it but I hate It. It adds a new level of gameplay based around pvp and just shakes things up. But most of the biomes actually have a lot of space and this whole idea just sucks especially when there are pts and argys flying around. Bloodstalker works pretty well to combat this, but I just wish you could fly in at least some of the biomes. Just my opinion.

    3.) The challenges are actually fun. From speed racing on a dolphin in the water to beat a timer with ring checkpoints, to using certain tames to try and kill x amount of dinos in a time limit, to guiding a bulbyboi to safety and so much more. It's refreshing to say the least and I enjoy it. But, they take up a lot of building priv zones and block quite a bit of the map. It's not the best map to build on I get it, but they should have done it differently imo.

    4.) The bog zone is absolutely not an easy zone. It's fun, and it was definitely a challenge to build up there even with my high level character, but it sucked. From spawning into instant death, to having multiple swarms attack you almost constantly. (Yes I know about the water) I probably went through about 100+ torch repairs. It was fun though.

    5.) The new hex shop is trash. There's only a few things worth it and although it's more of a bonus grab, I feel like the items aren't worth their hex value. I found myself only buying red packs, and even then it wasn't always great.

    I probably missed a lot of what I wanted to talk about but on my end, on ps4, the release was actually really smooth, aside from the delays, and I only crashed once in 10 hours. No lag on the server I was on, minor glitches/bugs, and overall it's been fun. I just wish a few things were different. Some small (ish) changes and I feel like this map could have been amazing. I just feel like once transferring tames/items opens up, this is just going to be a map you visit for certain tames/events like other maps before it.
