New to hosting, any recommended hosting sites with solid servicing mobile app?

    Posted: 31 Jan 2020 09:45 AM PST

As title, new to hosting and only know of Nitrado and the app has some recent iffy reviews on usability. Nodecraft also popped up, but don't really know much about their service yet.

Anyone able to recommend a host provider with a good servicing app? I play on PS4 and the PC is in another wing of the house - so ideally not looking to use a web interface for maintenance.

    Testing Server Difficulty Changes

    Posted: 31 Jan 2020 09:07 AM PST

I started a previous thread questioning how the Single Player checkbox on a locally hosted game changes the boss fights, because I couldn't find a concrete answer. As there wasn't a solid response I ended up testing it myself. I'm going to share my findings.

First, let's cover the formula used in determining difficulty. It's located in the wiki under Difficulty. The short version is this you have Difficulty Value (DV). That number is based on the Difficulty Offset (DO) and the Official Difficulty (OD), with this formula (from the wiki):

    DV = DO * (OD - 0.5) + 0.5

DO is a number from 0.01 to 1.0, and OD is 4.0 for the Island, and 5.0 for all other maps. The max dino level is equal to DV * 30. That means on the Island, with DO 1.0, the max level is 120, and it's 150 on all other maps. Now you might be thinking, on Official Island servers the max level is 150--but we'll get to that in a minute. If you Host a non-dedicated Island session with 1.0 DO, you will have a DV of 4.0, yielding max 120 dinos.

DV also determines loot quality (DV x 100% = Loot Quality). On DO 0.2, that's DV 1.2 on base Island, loot quality is 120%. On all other maps DO 0.2 gets DV 1.4, or 140% quality.

The other thing changed by DV is the boss fights--the bosses have the same HP regardless of the DV, but how hard they hit and their damage resistance is changed by the DV. More on this later.

The last setting associated with difficulty is OverrideOfficialDifficulty (OOD). This replaces the DV formula. If you set the OOD to 5.0, then the DV is now 5.0. Even if you set the DO to 0.01, it doesn't matter, the formula is ignored, and you get DV 5.0 (max 150 dinos, 500% loot quality), regardless of the DO setting.

So actually there is one more setting--Single Player Settings checkbox when hosting a local server. This changes several values shown in the wiki but the highlights are it changes the DO to 0.2, and boosts the health & melee of tames (bred tames will end up with roughly 2.3x health/melee). If you also check "Max Difficulty" this will set the OOD to 4.0 on Island, or 5.0 on other maps, and ignore the DO setting of 0.2.

So the Official Servers all have the OverrideOfficialDifficulty flag set to 5.0, meaning they all (including Island) have max 150 dinos.

This is why the typical advice is just pick a multiple of 30 for your max dino level and use that for your OOD value on a private/dedicated server. The mobile game labels DV 1.0 as Easy, DV 5.0 as Medium, DV 10.0 as Hard, and DV 15.0 as brutal. They also fuck with XP rates on their settings, but that's not the scope of this explanation.

So here are some example settings:

DO OD OOD DV Max Dino Loot Quality
    0.2 4.0 -- 1.2 36 120%
    0.2 5.0 -- 1.4 42 140%
    1.0 4.0 -- 4.0 120 400%
    1.0 5.0 -- 5.0 150 500%
    -- -- 10.0 10.0 300 1000%
    -- -- 15.0 15.0 450 1500%

Note that the first 4 can be set by just setting the OOD to the DV you want, as well. The only reason you really need to know the difficulty formula now is if you want to set up a dedicated server with Single Player Settings.

So I said the boss fights are affected by the DV. I don't have the exact math because I didn't care enough to check that far. What I did do is go into Alpha Broodmother on a summoned 238 Rex with 35 armor saddle, 37k Health, and 815% melee, with the SP boosted health/melee.

DV BM Attack BM Spit Rex Hit
    1.2 399 323 1,318
    4.0 1,129 916 466

Now before thinking, "Holy shit SP settings makes it way too easy!" remember that I used the same Rex in both tests. I'm just establishing the the damage output of the boss at DV 1.2 is 35% of the DV 4.0 boss. The 4.0 boss takes 35% of the damage that the 1.2 boss takes. On a DV 1.2 server the best kibble tamed Rex you can find would be 61 as opposed to 223 on a 4.0 server.

So that's my very lengthy overview of how the difficulty settings on a server work. It really looks like Wildcard had a complicated method of using DO & OD to establish the difficulty, then later decided to just use the OOD, because it truly overrides the other values.

    TL;DR

If you want to mirror the official servers, set OverrideOfficialDifficulty to 5.0 in your INI. If you want a dedicated server to have single player settings, use OOD 1.4 and adjust the health/melee rates to match the wiki entry I linked above. If you want to set your server to what Wildcard calls "Easy" on mobile, set the OOD to 1.0. (The argument can be made that WC abandoned DifficultyOffset completely, and OOD 1.0 is 20% of OOD 5.0, hence the "easy" setting on Mobile.)

I’m worried about the well-being of my base :,(

Okay yeah it's stupid, but I'll ask cause this shit is giving me anxiety. I'm at school and I can't help but worry about my base. It's raid weekend on my server. Is there an app or even website that can link with your tribe log. This would super amazing.

If not it would be pretty sweet to have an app that notifies you if something has been destroyed by a tribe, etc.
