Posted: 18 Aug 2020 09:08 AM PDT From, A bob that started a week ago in offical pvp —— 1: Get use to dying, in this game it's a normal process especially at the beginning. So don't sweat a few deaths. 2: Act like a cockroach. Avoid big open areas, thrive in the brush and shadows, scavenging for awhile. 3: Don't trust anybody unless you know them outside of ark or irl. 4: Don't get attached to your tames. Heartbreak is easier to deal with. 5: Don't leave home with anything you're not willing to lose. When you go out, look at your things and be okay with the idea of losing them. 6: Put your things in several places, cache, stash, like a squirrel. 7: Politics. Talk to your alphas, build a good reputation. Ethically raid. Being a prick will only bring you up to the top of eveyone's hitlist. 8: Don't touch the shiny jellyfish in the water.q [link] [comments] | ||

Differences between ARK's Computer and Mobile game. Posted: 18 Aug 2020 09:42 AM PDT Feel free to suggest additions, these are from my notice. Download: I think it goes without saying that Mobile only takes around ten minutes instead of ten hours to download. I'm impressed with how they compressed all those features into a well operating mobile game. Mobile also only has the main Island instead of all the others. Gameplay: Obviously there are different controls. With a keyboard there are different keys for each function. W, is used to run forward, S for back, and a and d for left to right. Holding shift and W makes you sprint and the space bar allows jumping. The key for gathering or picking up objects is E and dropping them in the inventory is O. The key for melee attacking is the right click and the left click and C are for the secondary skills while mounted. X is for crouching and accessing the inventory is I. The map is M and accessing the third person is done by swiping on the touchpad on the laptop, or scrolling on the computer mouse. The arrow keys help pan the camera and K accesses the backward camera view, which can be zoomed in an out using the touchpad. On Mobile, everything is controlled with two thumbs which I personally find considerably more convenient. The left side of the screen controls movement and the right side controls direction. You simply press and hold the left thumb to run, and in order to sprint you double tap and hold. To move left or right you simply swipe and hold in that direction on the left side. To change running direction you pan the camera using the right thumb. You can also swipe up to jump and while mounted, swiping up and down determines the secondary skills. Usually swiping up is equal to the right click and swiping down is C. On Mobile, melee and gathering uses the same function, the right press. You stand in front of the target to gather. But for gathering you press lightly, if you press hard it may end up as a punch and aggro an animal. Just make sure your target is focused. Mobile does not have the single player settings like resistance and stats, which make Mobile more challenging in that sense. Mobile also does not have access to spawn codes and console, since there is one map the DLC creatures are not included. Friendly fire is already disabled in the Mobile game. Mobile also gives you a tutorial on how to play the game when you start. There are also in game quests that will win you prizes and level ups, as well as Amber. In game: The landscape of the Island and terrain is slightly different in Mobile. There is a trench in the North Redwood River on PC that's not on Mobile, as well as the volcano crater. On Mobile it's a mining field that's plentiful with metal and obsidian, so the crater on PC is much deeper and has the Tek cave. Half the caves on PC are removed on Mobile, including the Tek cave, Dead Island spiral cave, upper South cave, and Cavern of Lost Faith and Hope are removed. On Mobile there are other underwater caves that have resources however, I have yet to find out if PC has them too. Some animals are unfortunately removed on Mobile, including Thylacoleo, Ichthyornis, Kentrosaurus, Hyaenodon, Hesperornis, and Megalania. Pegomastax, Daeodon, Troodon, Jerboa, and Megatherium do not spawn naturally on the Island and only in dungeons. Other than these animals every other Island one is there. Speaking of which, Mobile does not have the PC guardian bosses and instead many more exclusive to them. The Obelisks are portals for the dungeons which you have to best in order to get TEK, they're complex mazes filled with traps and a variant called Eerie creatures. Eerie animals are similar to regular ones but always spawn at max level difficulty and have colorful luminescence which is good for breeding. After besting the dungeons, you are teleported to the boss Arena and when you defeat them you get Tek. Mobile does not have the Overseer nor Ascension so you don't get to learn the full origin of the ARKs. The bosses on Mobile are mostly based off of regular animals. I'm certain the Mobile bosses are slightly nerfed since you're not allowed to use tames to fight them or in dungeons.
On Mobile the difficulty settings are different. On PC you always loose our items when you die. On Mobile you have the option of choosing what to keep. On the lowest difficulty, you keep weapons and clothes but loose everything else, while on others you can loose everything or all engram points and blueprints. On the lowest difficulty, creature implants and artifacts will be kept upon death. Ancient Amber is always kept in the inventory and can never be stolen, even on multiplayer. On PC, the max difficulty spawns level 150 creatures, while on Mobile the max difficulty spawns level 450 creatures and they cannot be changed. Mobile also does not have the 70-80 level limitation and goes slightly higher. On max difficulty, tamed animals can go up to level 800. Mobile serves as a great tutorial before attempting the PC game and has many convenient features. The controls for accessing inventory and third person are swipable menus on screen. The hotbar can be displayed on the bottom right and you have two slots to the farthest right for passive taming. There is also a screenshot function in game but the images can only be shared on wifi. Mobile is only as good as your device, more recent ones will run the game smoothly while older ones are prone to crashing. Airplane mode will allow smoother gameplay. With that being said, there are many additional features on Mobile. Ancient Amber is an exclusive Mobile currency that allows you to buy some sweet merchandise in the Amber shop, which is part of the inventory and engram menu. This includes stations, decorating accessories, animal collars that enable buffs and tracking, and exclusive tools, TEK blueprints, and eerie Edmundium. Amber however is ridiculously rare and can be found in every rock and stone with a small probability. You can get Mobile by completing pursuits or tributing. Since the PC bosses are not on Mobile you don't use artifacts to summon them. Serving artifacts to the obelisks will give you prizes like weapons, blueprints, ancient amber, and best of all would be soothing balm. Mobile does not have supply crates on Single Player so tributing is important to get those items. For this reason caving is an important task of the game, you can tribute over and over again for more of these items. Since on easiest difficulty you don't loose artifacts, on Mobile you can plant beds next to artifact rooms surrounded by protective walls. All you have to do is die purposefully and teleport among the beds. Plant beds at the obelisks too as well as storage boxes. With this system you can teleport at will in and out of the caves which is something you can't do on PC. Get the artifacts, die again, tribute them to the obelisks and get the prizes. Then you can put them in the storage containers and when you need them, use a flying animal to get them. Soothing balm is an exclusive taming drug on Mobile that can be acquired through free video gifts or tributing. They are capable of dramatically increasing tame effectiveness and speed, which makes taming considerably easier. The minor balm increases by three times, regular by ten, and major by fifteen. Using regular or major you can instantly tame a Tusoteuthis on prime cooked meat or black pearls. I recall taming a Tapejara in around ten seconds at 27% effectiveness on regular balm and a Dunkleosteus in less than a minute. Since speed and effectiveness is decreased you don't need as much drugs or food, but come prepared cause you can only use balm once on a target. Mobile also allows you to ressurect wild and tamed animals. You don't have to worry about tames being lost forever as long as your smart about it. The animals have implants that can be removed from the inventories, and when you offer 2 ancient amber to the obelisks or the Mobile exclusive revival device they will come back to life after dying, but you have to do this before the implants expire. This is the only way to tame eerie creatures in the dungeons, hence the dungeon exclusive animals. You must kill them then ressurect them in a pen. Resurrection makes taming a whole lot easier, as brutal as the process is. I tamed my first Quetzalcoatlus by taking the implant from a dead one. As opposed to cryopods, Mobile has a feature called chronicling. You need element to do this and the feature is accessible in the tame target settings. When you chronicle the tame they are reverted into their implant which you can safeguard for later use. They can be stowed way permanently without expiration and bring them back using revival. Using this method Liopleurodons can be permanent tames by chronicling them before the timer runs out. On Mobile you can only tame 40 animals which is a limit not on PC for the sake of storage. Chronicling will clear some slots. As far as taming and the animals go, on Mobile the wild animal's health is constantly displayed when you stand next to them or look into the spyglass. That's a feature I really miss when starting on PC. You can be careful about not killing them while taming. The animal's behaviors are largely the same with a few notable exceptions. On Mobile, Tyrannosaurus and Giganotosaurus completely ignore mounted animals but will aggro on unmounted or wild animals. In fact Tyrannosaurus on Mobile prioritize attacking wild animals over tames and will only come after you if you're standing alone and unmounted. Giganotosaurus do not wonder on Mobile so they stay completely still unless you venture too close unmounted. Taming Therizinosaurus and Diplodocus on Mobile is considerably harder however. Unlike on PC they are not ignored by smaller carnivores. Each and every predator will attack both of them. For Therizinosaurus it usually ends up with the predator's death but for Diplodocus they get killed left and right for being unable to defend themselves. In a way PC is more logical in this manner for allowing them to populate. But then again the preds kill on sight instead of hunger in ARK. Oh and Titanoboas are not tamable on Mobile. Lastly as far as animals go Leedsichthys do not attack rafts on Mobile, they're all around passive until attacked. As far as I know you have to scrape meat off of them using a sword. On the Mobile Island's Far's Peak, Griffins will spawn naturally and they have to be tamed by earning respect which is a ridiculously long process. Unlike PC Griffins they can deal damage to herbivores and have genders, and can be bred. Baby Griffins are quite cute. Since Mobile doesn't have enough memory despawning is imminent. Even if Mobile had spawn codes the rare animals would disappear if you leave and open spots for new ones. Another insane landscape difference between the two platforms is that wild animals on Mobile are immune to lava. That's out of the realm of realism. On PC lava deals slow damage to all animals but on Mobile it doesn't hurt the wild ones and kills tames and humans instantly. That's "natural selection" or at least a very biased one. One last thing to be explained is game data modification. A feature I truly wish was on PC. Basically it allows you to warp space and time in the game. You are capable of saving backup game files on your google account on Mobile so that you can reverse any events you want to take back in the game or transfer progress to another phone. I always do this before taming a dangerous animal, save a backup file so I can travel back in time and start over. I hope ARK's base game introduces such a feature later on. Overall, I've always like Mobile better than the computer game. It's more challenging due to lack of setting manipulation and spawn codes, the only PC advantages are the greater creatures and maps. If they made apps of the DLC's and even Steam mods in the future somehow that would be spectacular. We'll have to wait and see if a gleeful future gives us a phone with computer level storage.
